Power to the Voice (POVO),is a social project that taps into CEMCOD’s Community Media structure to enhance nationwide civic participation of youth through formal debates, community interface meetings and radio talk shows . The project, implemented for 6 months is supported by the Karibu Foundation. CEMCOD acknowledges young people as leaders willing to try out new opportunities through voluntary undertakings but need participatory motivation and skills to be proactive in democracy and development movements. Since inception, the project has offered practical trainings to 50 youth in public speaking, debating techniques, civic participation, active citizenship and soft skills in the Easten region districts of Jinja and Mbale.
POVO has created a platform for grassroots youth to build their confidence and ability to actively listen, effectively communicate and lead on issues of concern while advocating for themselves and other marginalized groups within their communities.
